In this thread I will tell you how to make your house better for fighting mobs in Survival.
The first thing to making sure your base is ready for mobs is to have elevation at the ready. Build a guard tower that's reasonably high next to, or on top of, your house. This will help you escape mobs if they manage to break through your defenses. Make sure your guard tower is accessible from your house, so that you are not running into a pit of mobs at night trying to get to it. Spoiler Alert: You'd probably die.
The next thing to do is make sure your house is closed. Don't have a big open patio that you keep all your chests on, build walls and a roof around everything. Put fences around the front of your house and close them off from the outside. (Or you can leave one that's three blocks high open and put a block in front of it so you can jump on top of it and shoot mobs safely from indoors.
The final thing I'll tell you about is making defenses. This is key, especially for harder modes like normal/legendary. Defenses will keep your house from being exploded. Build walls farther away from your house. Put lights on it, put sentry turrets on it, put sentry turrets on your house, dig a mote around your house, put spikes inside the mote. Do everything you can to make your house completely mob proof.
